Synthetic oils. May start running Mobil 1 or Amsoil?

Run some Royal Purple. I have had this in my truck since the first change. Synthetic RP = Engine, Trans, Diff. Everytime I do a change in any one of those drivetrain components, i can feel the revival it gives them. Just my $.02. Feel free to return any change if I overpaid
Hmm... When I bought my 09' Escape last year I put 1,000 miles on it and switched to Full Synthetic. I'm not sure where you read the 15k break-in deal but, after the first 500 miles, all the engine components are "broken in". Feel free to switch anytime... (The Escape now has 20k miles on it, and hasn't had a lick of trouble. I'm still running RP and K&N oil filters with Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer. No worries)

just my 2 cents on the synthetic oil thing.my former instructor in the mechanic trade asked me why i would run synthetic oil in my engines.i thought it was better for the engine.he said the oil is getting changed every 3k miles for regular oil.his point was if you change your oil at the recommended intervals you should never had a problem.he did not buy into the higher cost of the synthetic oil being better for your engine.i would have to agree w/ him he had several vehicles whose engines lasted well into the 300k range and 1 into 450k w/ regular oil.he made me a believer so i use regular castrol gtx on all my oil changes and all is well.

I agree about the regular oil. Nothing wrong with it if you change it properly. But alot of people dont wanna change every 3k. So we use a synthetic that can run longer. But make sure your get a filter that can handle the extended change times of the oil unless you want to change the filter out more often.

also synthetics help your engine run cooler, therefore helping with the mpg and longevity of the engine. I still will change my oil at 5k miles being that its full synthetic. Otherwise if I ran 5-20 semi-syn id change that at 2500-3k miles, like i did in my last f-150. and at 3k miles, my semi-syn was pretty well used up. so really running dino/semi-syn oil is not cheaper imo.

I'm just going with the motorcraft semi-synth that is recommended, and motorcraft filters as well. Not only is it cheap, but it works great so far. I also only need to change mine every 6 months since thats about how long it takes me to put 5k on it. Whats nice is my truck came with this 'auto butler' system, where every 6 months i get to take it in and they wash it, wax it, put their 'special' protectant on it, then polish it, and i get 12 applications, the first right when you buy the truck, it warranties my paint from fading or clearcoat from peeling for 6 years, and I never have to wax it in that time. It also comes with free rental while they are doing the work, so i just go in, drop it off in the morning, hop in my rental and go to work. While there, it gets that auto butler, scheduled mainenance, and oil change, then i get off work and swing by and pick it up all ready to go...I'm more than happy with it so far.

Increased Hp and MPG? Really! I want to see the data on this. If there is it cant be anything significant that your really going to notice. 20-30 miles more per tank could be the vehicle is now broke in or you drove different that tank. Are you checking it every tank? I know it has benefits for an engine but I dont see it adding anything significant in Hp or MPG.

Not all ford dealers in the area offer it, but where i bought it does. If your vehicle is over 30k it comes free, if its under you can buy it for a price, and i don't think its extremely cheap either. I know i just got my treatment done and it is shiny and smooth, i think its an alright deal. Its really a good way for the dealer to get you to get your regular service there to, just like im doing, so i can see how its worth it to them.

I wouldn't do this with my new truck, but my last one ( an 00 GMC 4x4 Z71 ext. cap ) I switched to full synthetic at 100,000 k ( about 60,000 miles ), and changed it twice a year ( 16,000 k = 10,000 miles ) For the last three or four years, I changed it once a year ( 30 - 35,000 k = 18 - 21, 000 miles ) I sold the truck at 10 years old and 300,000 km ( about 180,000 mi ) and the engine ran just as great as it always did. The fuel mileage never varied and the engine was never touched - didn't have to change the sparkplugs in 200,000 k. The only thing I did with it in that time was add a small can of Slick 50 fuel treatment once a year. And at 10 years old and 300,000 km I consider a vehicle to be basically worn out, and time to sell it to someone else that's looking for a vehicle at that price point. Not that the truck showed it, or drove like it. I towed my 7500 lb, 33 ft trailer with it a couple of times a year, and it regularly pulled a 3000 lb trailer with another 1000 lbs in the bed, so it was used.

And yes, increased HP and MPG. It's called lubricity. It reduces friction. Less friction =....... you guessed it, more HP, MPG's and reduced operating temperatures.
You don't have to believe me, and I'm not going to post any "facts". We'll agree to disagree.
I would like to know your thoughts on why it's even made, if there are no benefits.
