Base Sync in a base XL, I listen to USP MP3's exclusively, library exceeds 32 GB. The biggest hassle is finding a file transfer that keep the desired order. I use Win10 and keep a folder of music that contains albums from a single recording artist as folders in that. No problems searching by artist folder, then album folder, then song. I just drag and drop folders from computer storage to USB drive. I do not use Win Media Player. KM

Yup. And the media player with that operating system sucks. The aggravating thing is that it sucks unnecessarily. There are so many software engineers who could write a decent media player app for them, it's just inexcusable to see this.

I have 20 gb of mp3s on a USB that I listen to a lot, have no issues with the Sync system at all, that I can think of. My albums play their songs in the correct order. My mixes play in the order I want them to. I don't browse though, I just push the talk button and tell the system what artist or what album or what mix or what particular song I want to hear.

I admit I'm a bit slow at times, but this has me confused. Did you modify the file names to get a particular order? My ripped cd's and downloaded albums all play the songs in the right order.

Mine do too---- except on the Sync system.
The filename of the mp3 is very different than the mp3 tag embedded in the file.

Attached is an example from a folder:

When those songs were ripped-- the number of the track was included in the file name. The MP3 tag information embedded in the file has the Song Name (and artist, and etc...). See example-- the tag also has the TRACK NUMBER-- but that field is ignored by the Sync player. See the details of the track 10 song here:

Sync sorts every folder by SONG TITLE, not by TRACK NUMBER. Controlling this should be an EASY thing to do and should be built into the system already.
The 10 songs in that folder above would be played in this order: Track 05, 07, 02, 01, 08, 09, 10, 06, 04, 03-- alphabetical according to the Title tag in the mp3 properties data.
For classic albums, I don't know many people who want the songs played out of sequence. I would hope they include this very simple media sorting function in a future update.
EDIT: Perhaps when you ripped your cd's, your mp3 metadata tags appended the track number to the song title so the mp3 data under "title" says 10 Night Prowler, for example. I am not much interested in editing thousands of mp3 files to compensate for the Sync system

I thought you meant alphabeticaly but wasn't sure. I know about the embedded track number but I order my mixes by changing the song file name with 01-, 02- and so on and it plays them in that order ignoring the embedded track number. On my rips and downloads the embedded track number matches the number in the file name. So I was suprised that yours doesn't play in order.

As an aside I also use a tag editor to change the album name of the songs in my various mix folders to the name of my mix/folder name and Sync then treats it as an album which lets me use voice commands to play a particular mix.

Sorry I can't be of any help with what you're experiancing.

SYNC reads and uses most of the important ID3 tags, including title, artist, album, track and genre, and will play the songs in an album in correct order if the track number is right, but you need to have your tags exactly correct, especially track number. For track number, I've found you need to use leading zeros: 01, 02, 03, etc.. Including the track number as part of the file name is not only a PITA to set up, it will also prevent Gracenote from displaying the right cover info.

Check out this thread, which lists several good tag editors: https://www.f150forum.com/f118/sync-...format-425734/. One of the best tag editors listed in this thread is "mp3tag". It is freeware and has good online documentation. It lets you run operations in batches and uses wildcards. For example, you can get rid of the track number in thousands of file names all at once by stripping out the first 3 characters from all your file names in one operation.

Once the metadata is squared away, voice commands should work great for playing a specific artist or album or song or genre.

Hi,

I have 256 GB usb stick filled with music. I have Playlists. My sync shows me the playlists and I can select one. Once in a playlist I can scroll through the tracks.

I used Apple iTunes to organize my music and then use "PlayList Export" to make the appropriate tagging for the playlists. google that. My issue is Sync 3.4 no longer allows browsing the playlists while driving, yet you can browse songs, artist etc. Stupid. Forscan allows you to bring it back.
