Sync 3 update
Hey I’m looking for some advice for my current situation. I have a 2016 f150, just brought it to the dealer yesterday to fix a coolant leak and ask if they could upgrade the sync software in the process so I could finally get Apple car play. Get a call three hours later saying my truck is ready to be picked up but the Center console is completely useless now because of a bad APIM. Dealer is saying I have to pay for the new apim and it will run me $1600 CAD all in. I know there’s many posts about apim’s and how they just die. But the dealer is refusing to pay to fix it even though they were the ones who bricked my whole system when it was working perfectly fine when I had brought it in. Any suggestions? Thanks!
@Tjames66 - for a little of $400 and about 45 minutes, you could upgrade your APIM and fix your console if you follow advice here:

My 2013 is like a new truck with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (wireless) working flawlessly. Navigation (Ford Sync) included. Wireless option about $25 more for the usb module. The eBay seller I bought from pre-programmed everything so no Forscan required, although the USB dongle was provided.

I dont know what to tell you about the dealer. They suck.
You could get a new APIM from a pick-n-pull yard for cheap. I got a 2019 APIM for like $200 when I upgraded my 2014 from Sync 2 to Sync 3.
The later year APIM's are faster and better. If you were to go this route, I believe you would want one from a late 2018 or 2019. 2020's I've heard have compatibility issues with other modules in the truck so I would stay away from 2020.
