They change my oil for free, but a software update, no chance.

I also can't see what could possibly be involved. I do my own software updates and installs on my own computers, but I need to pay some guy $132 to shove a memory stick in a slot?

Little more involved than using a mem stick but it should fall under 3/36 warranty if you still have that.

Updating software is a nice little profit center for dealerships but they prey upon uninformed customers. This is something that should be done under warranty but they try to charge for it if you don't actually complain that something doesn't work in Sync / MyFordTouch (BTW, those are two different components). `

I just had the system in my 2011 MKX updated by the dealer because I'm one of unlucky ones who is not allowed to download updates from Ford (broken software determines my MKX is always up to date with a current version date of sometime in 2011). They tried to charge me $24. Not a big amount but super tacky since the vehicle is under warranty, there are huge numbers of bugs in the older versions, Ford tells me the dealer will do updates for free and this same dealership has done 2 previous updates without charge.

I've had my truck for about 1 year and a half. It has 40,000 km. They assure me it is not under warranty. I have a plant that cover all servicing, including, including consumables. They have rotated the tires, measured the brake wear and checked the alignment, added washer fluid and changed oil.

But they need payment for the hour.
