Looking at the used car market (autotrader) I see a huge difference in the number of SuperCrew vs SuperCab trucks. The number of 4 door F150s seem to far outnumber the SuperCabs. This matches what I see on the street as well. Lots of SuperCrew with short boxes. I'm leaning toward purchasing a SuperCab with a 6.5" box as that size box seems more useful, and the proportions look better to me. But I'm wondering, is there some reason the SuperCab seems so unpopular?
Not sure I’d say unpopular but for someone like me who daily drives the truck with a family of 4 and a dog the Crew cab is way more useful to me than and extra foot of bed space. The truck is our camping/hunting/fishing rig so as important as bed space is the interior room for passengers is a little more important.

You're right, there are many more SCrews compared to SCabs, Possibly some of the reason is that those buyers have kids, young family, etc., that they need the extra room, and sacrifice the longer bed for the short short box.
I 've had 6 SCabs, and prefer those with a 6.5 box. I don't cart around anyone but myself and two medium size dogs usually, and if I happen to have a couple other two legged dogs in there, it's usually for a short distance.
And I agree, the SCab with a 6.5 box does look more balanced, IMO.
I will say after driving a few SCrews, those things are cavernous in the rear area, nice if you need it.
I don't know officially. I have always been a Supercab guy myself. I am on my third one. I do have a passable back seat on those very rare occassions I need one, but have a full useful bed without making the truck extra long. I wanted a truck for the bed rather than the back seat. My thought is that people want the functionality of having a truck, but still want the luxury of a full back seat for passengers. In all the years I've had Supercabs, while the back seat was always just fine for my kids, I think I could count the number of times I've had adult passengers in the back seat on one hand. While not luxurious and spacey, they survived it.
My reasoning is that alot of people who have regular cabs/extended cabs have the so they can have the bigger bed to haul stuff when needed, & people who have the super crew cabs have them as people haulers. IMHO the super crew with the 4' bed is useless, to small & I do not like the look of a 4 door pu. I have a 05 regular cab F150 pu with a 6.5' bed & besides being my DD I also use it to haul stuff or when something will mess up the interior of my wife;s SUV, & my wife has 21 Bronco Sport which is a 4 door which we use when we go on trips or going out when there is more then 2 of us or we can put stuff in the back that is small or not mess up the interior..

What others have stated, only reason i can think of to get a supercab is if i didnt have kids and wanted the shorter wheelbase. The shortbed and Reg bed are offered on the SuperCrew. The main reason I got rid of my extended cab Ram and got a Ford was for the 4 doors due to having our first kid.
Plus, in all the years of owning a hort bed, ive never needed a regular bed. If it didnt fit in the short bed, the extra foot wouldnt have made a difference.

When did Ford offer a 4ft bed? Last I checked it was either 5.5, 6.5, or 8ft. Since switching from the 6.5 to 5.5 I havent had any instances where that extra foot would have saved me...guess it would be beneficial for a work truck that always had stuff in it or hauling a 4 wheeler or something.
I prefer the looks of the supercab with the longer bed, but you can't deny the convenience of the supercrew. And this from a guy who has probably had people in the back seat maybe twice in the whole time I've owned the truck. My mastiffs have always been very comfortable in the back with the seats flipped up and you can fit an amazing amount of stuff in the back with the seats flipped up.
The longer bed would be handy but as somebody above said, if I need a longer bed, an extra foot doesn't really do that much for long lumber, etc. A 10 footer is still going to be way long in a 6.5 foot bed.
It might come in handy if I hauled motorcycles or something like that but I don't.
