Successfully mirroring Android onto My Ford Touch 8" Screen
Hey guys I figured I'd post it here in the General Discussion as well.
My original plan was to run a dashcam's output through the screen, but my current dashcam doesn't record when its displaying through the HDMI out. So Different dashcam probably.
The quality is pretty good, Considering the screen resolution is only 800x480.
I got an HDMI to Composite converter from Amazon for $15. Then I got the HDMI from my Note 3 going into the converter and Composite cables going into the Input in the center console.
If you want wireless then you can use Chromecast and mirror your Android Screen that way.
The Quality is awesome, the Text is clear and readable.

I can use my Android phone as a portable, wireless, backup camera for hooking up my 5th wheel trailer. (Unless of course, the OEM backup camera that comes on when you go into reverse, overrides the composite input?)

Haven't tried the chromecast method yet. But you can hook up Chromecast to the HDMI-to-Composite Converter instead of other HDMI device.
I have a Note 3 and it's one of the phones that you can use with your chromecast to cast your phone screen.
O and everything fits neatly in the center console, no visible wires or anything.

Yes.
When I had my Note 3 connected to the screen, I turned on the camera. The quality of the video was amazing (for non HD screen/composite input).
You could get a long HDMI cable and hook it up to your smartphone and leave it at back for good visibility and it should work no problem.
And I think there is a way to turn off rear parking aid in the settings on the 8" screen.

You could permanently hardwire various cameras around your truck if you need to. One in the front one in the back, go crazy with one on each side as well.
All you need is an HDMI switch. 2-4 Inputs and one Output. The output you hook up to the HDMI-to-Composite converter.
Then have the switch easily accessible so you can switch to different cameras on the fly.
