Default Stupid question?

I have had my 2011 F150 for about 2 months now. (4x2, 5.0, SCrew.) It seems like when I let off the gas there is quite a bit of engine braking. It seems different than any vehicle I have owned. Could it be a problem? Could it be as simple as a front alignment?

Or just my imagination?

Problem is we've got no point of reference.
Sure it could have excessive engine braking, and if it does, a myriad of things could be causing it.
Brake drag, parking brake hanging up, low front tire pressure(s), toque converter, trans, rear end, hubs, and the list just goes on and on.
If you're concerned about it, take it to a Ford dealer. I mention an actual Ford dealer because as opposed to your local Shell mechanic, the techs at the dealer have boat-loads of experience driving YOUR EXACT TRUCK.
Pop in the service drive around lunch tues-thurs(best chance to get 'em free), and ask if a tech can drive your truck with you in it.
You should be still within your 3/36, so they're not gonna charge you to look at it.

Just in case.

Are you locking out one or more gears? On the shifter is a selector to +/- gears. You may be driving with just 4th or 5th and not allowing it to go into 6th, or 5th...etc.

I have an '11, 5.0 and it kills itself to be in the highest gear possible and I haven't had any drag.

If you don't figure it out, as stated you need to take it to the dealer. They will find any problem quicker than anyone else. These trucks have so much "stuff" lol. Anything could be happening.

Get it checked out for sure to rule out brake drag or something else. But more than likely it is deceleration fuel cut off (dfco) which basically turns off fuel and detonation during deceleration. It does feel like a weak engine break. Go drive a 2010 ford 15 passenger van and it is really noticeable.

It is in most all cars since about 2000 or so(at least that is when I first started noticing it). But the f150 is a bit more pronounced.

Thanks everyone. I figured I would have it looked at, but I had to see if I was crazy first. Packplantpath's explanation below sounds reasonable. Since my last new car was a 2001, I would not have norticed it in a previous car.
