Stuck in 4LO?? Help
Hey everyone,
New to the forums and been researching all day.
2008 F150 5.4 Triton 130k miles
Everyone seems to have a little bit of my problem but not all of them.
It all started two days ago when I had cleaned and detailed my truck.
I must have hit 4wd switch or something, later I was driving and noticed it acting funny. Then noticed the switch on 4lo. Tried to switch back to 2hi and nothing.. no lights on dash saying which mode I am in..
So the problems I am having are a

So the problems I am having are a
- loud whining noise. which only occurs under load. and when gas is given.
- Speedometer is saying I am doing at least triple the speed I am going. Which is causing my mileage to skyrocket.
- Nothing seems to be happening when trying to disengage 4wd
- 4hi and 4lo lights illuminate on dashboard only at startup for a few seconds.
- loud clunks
- can barely make 35 mph..

I had filled that out in my member profile figuring it would show.. post updated. Truck is a 2008 F150 5.4 Triton, and thanks to the mileage increase yesterday it has 130k
If you drove very far, you probably got drive line wind up. just put it back into 4lo and then put in reverse and back up slowly. Sometimes you will hear a clunk and then switch back to 2hi. May take more than one try. Good Luck.
On my last truck I had similar symptoms after a heavy rain but I was stuck in four high not four low. Tried cycling from 4hi, 4lo, 2wd and did the whole reverse thing with no luck. Turned out that the transfer case encoder motor was shorted and had to be replaced. But in my situation it said I was in 2wd but I could feel it binding on slow speed turns and that's how I knew it was actually in 4wd. Just something to consider. Good luck
