Default Strength of tailgate - loading a mower

Anybody know how much weight the tailgate can actually handle? I have 2014 f150 with 6.5 ft bed but a 2 ft toolbox that I use for work so if I load a mower I won't be able to just take the tailgate off, there won't be enough room. Was thinking of getting some loading ramps and wondering if the tailgate can handle the weight of loading and unloading a mower using ramps

Tons of people do that, I don't think you would have a issue at all.

I believe the tailgate is rated for 300 pounds of weight. Ramps would mean that the ground is bearing some of the weight as the vehicle goes up the ramps into the bed. That's why most things (ATVs, mowers) can be safely loaded.

Everything I found online points to the strength of the cables, they bear all the weight.
I found this as a good explanation.

guess it all depends on how much the mower weighs.

I loaded my old 12hp 36" deck mid 80s (all steel) Troy bilt in my bed a couple times. Also loaded my current John Deere lx173 15hp 48" deck in to bring it home. No issues with the tailgate handling the weight.

I have been loading my Brute Force quad with ramps on the tailgate all the time without issue and it tops out at over 600# plus me pushing it well over 800# combined.

I have never given it a second thought.
