stopped and wont start please help

Exclamation stopped and wont start please help

I have a Ford F250 82 with a old 351M in her i was driving up the road the other night and all of a sudden it back fired back threw the exasht and shut off and wont start again just back fires up threw the carb and out the exasht it **** a flame out like 2 feet long we tried all the different eltrical boxes on the fenders but nothing.
what else could it be by just driving up the road and going i was even revin it when it went. could the timming jump that easy? cause thats what it sounds like whats wrong with it but it was runnin the very best befor.
please help asap

If you are shooting flames out of the exhaust it sounds like raw fuel is getting in the muffler/exhaust and is exploding. Not sure why that would be happening though.

Suggest that if the chain jumped, then check your timing - it should be off as well. If it won't start, may have to check the timing manually - rotate to the appropriate timing setting, then check the distributor as to where the rotor is at in relation to the #1 post.

If the timing chain has jumped, in many cases the motor will not 'sound' right when turning over.

May also consider that the DuraSpark module has failed, yielding only intermittent sparks.
