Stereo upgrade problems? Help!
I've got a 2006 F-150 FX4 ExCab and I'm thinking about putting a different stereo in it- while I like the stock system (6-disc with MP3, 4 speakers and subwoofer under rear seat) it came with, the receiver itself lacks some features I want, like bluetooth and navigation. But I'm not sure whether I'm going to run into road blocks trying to swap oout the system- I was told, by a client of mine, that the premium stereo systems in new cars are made and set up in such a way that you can't replace one part without replacing the entire system! This seems unbelieveable to me and I'm praying it isn't true- there's just NO way I can afford to replace the speakers, amplifier and subwoofer in addition to the receiver.
I hope someone on here will be able to give me some good news!

You won't have to change all that out. I think the older 'Stangs were like that but you should be fine with our trucks. I've done a TON of Expeditions without any problems and they have the same exact radio as the F-150. Let me know if you have anymore questions and I should be able to answer them.
Thanks for the replys fellas! That puts me a little more at ease. I thoought it was strange but, then, I wouldn't put it past a car company to pull something like that, in order to force owners to pay the ungodly prices to have upgrade work done at their dealerships.
BBBBBB- No, I've never removed the dash and I don't plan to, LOL!

The higher end factory systems really are built as an integrated system. You will need a more advanced install shop in order to improve its sound on a piecemeal basis. Products such as the JL integrator were designed for these situations: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_c...php?page_id=79
