So my starter has been getting hung up recently on my 2012 f150 with the 5.0. It started out intermittent but now gets hung up every time I start the truck. And by hung up I mean the starter stays engaged about 2 seconds after the truck actually starts. I replaced the starter relay and the truck has a brand new battery. Am I going to have to look at getting a new starter?

 

Maybe.

Pull the starter and lubricate the shaft that the pinion gear slides on.
If you can't get it to move freely, it will be time to replace.
