Hey all. First timer here. I need a starter for my 85 and I was wondering if the pure energy brand from rock auto is any good. I don't have a lot of cash and will be attempting to change it myself. Any thoughts would be most appreciated. Thanks is advance and God Bless.

thought i replied a couple of days ago, but must not have hit enter. I would suggest you go to a local parts store instead of rock auto. Nothing wrong with rock auto but if the starter does not work or fails next month your truck will be down for days instead of hours. If you can afford it get the best quality starter you can afford. if you need to go low dollar, be prepared to replace sooner than later. replacing a starter is fairly easy just make sure you disconnect the battery, check and clean cables.

No, it's a junk brand. Motorcraft is only ~$20 more - maybe less from Amazon or eBay, without RA's outrageous shipping.

Disconnecting the battery is not necessary on an '85 - the starter cable is not hot except during cranking.

Check for a local shop that can rebuild your current one.
