Unhappy Start Up Issues After Filling Up

Howdy.

I've been having this odd problem where every time I fill up, my truck won't start until the third attempt. The third attempt every. Single. Time. Other then when I fill up with gas, it starts up just fine and right away.

Just recently, the check engine light has also come on but only when I'm about 100-140 miles to empty and then it will turn off.

I took it in to my trusted shop, and they said they wouldn't be able to diagnose it unless the check engine light was on (it wasn't at the time). My guy said he believes it has to do with the emissions control in the fuel tank, err or something along those lines.

I plan on taking it into the dealership next week, but I was just wondering if anyone else has been having this problem and if so, could you please tell me what's going on? And what you had to do to resolve it?

Thanks in advance.

Are you filling tank ...overfull....1st click at pump or filling till you think its full...could be flooding vent/emission lines..

I just leave the pump in till it clicks. Are you saying I should stop it before it clicks?

No...some fill passed the click and fuel spills over to vent lines...

I see.. well that sounds relatively not good. Any way to resolve this? Just be more mindful of how much gas I'm putting in there?

There is a safe level factored in ...but its the owners that fill till it spill back out the fill tube.. so if your not that person then im not seeing this as you issue...
Also is this a newer truck?....my bad for thinking its a new truck as well...

That's good to know. It's a 2012 XLT Crew Cab.

Very possible that the canister purge valve that somehow has been compromised. My guess is you need a new vapor canister or purge valve.

That sounds less than awesome. Thank you for the insight, I will pursue this avenue as well.

No problem. Our 07 Expedition had a similar issue and it ended up that if we only put the nozzle 2/3 the way in, no more problems.
