Default Spray-On Chrome

Have you seen this? It's pretty amazing but I would question how durable the finish would be on exterior parts.

this is very intresting. i think they did this on pimp my ride once on the mustang they put 21 tv's in. you could make some serious money if you opened up one of these. its half the price of chrome with the same look.

I agree. I think one of the keys to making it a great business would be not let your customers see the process.

I wonder if any of the runn-off material is recoverable.

im sure you could recover some. but you would have to have seperate wash tanks for all the steps.

they've been doing this for awhile overseas to whole cars. on an episode of inside west coast customs they did a solid chrome audi r8 for the creator of Tron. its just like paint. you put clear over it and wet sand and everything.

Freshly sprayed

Same bumper after a few months in the sunlight- it has turned yellow, pink in some spots, clouded/hazed in others, peeling, blotching, etc. Lovely, isn't it? Total garbage!

yes,... its not good for exterior. just for interior parts that wont be touched... so forget about door handles, but maybe some bezel trims or things like that..

like i said when the professionals do it they spray a good clear coat over it. its more like car paint. you can wet sand it and everything. i'll bet that guy didn't put a clear on.
