Default spare tire size

I have a 2013 PLATINUM with bridgestone 20" tires on the ground and a 18" Goodyear wrangler for a spare. was told at the Ford dealer that was a common practice of Ford. VERY disappointed !!! has anyone else experienced this

275/55r20 for tires on truck..
275/65r18 for spare..
?????

the 20 compares at 31.9 the 18 comes in at 32.1 for rolling diameter...close enough for a spare...

when i see what my spare looks like after a year under the truck (just put it on a few days ago), just be glad they dont put a fancy rim / tire in there!! Dirt, stuck gravel, you name it...

it's meant for emergency situations, or for a few days, not to look cool!

And when you live in the rust-belt after a couple of years the ...
  • rim is rusted beyond belief (and safe use).
  • the tire's sidewall that's tightened against the frame rails is chafed and partially worn-thru (again not safe for use).
  • ability to actually get it down and use it is negligibile.
Which is why the 2nd mod' (after removing the dealership decal(s)) is to remove the spare from underneath the bed and secure it IN the bed.

it's meant for emergency situations, or for a few days, not to look cool!
BINGO! Though it is full-size, it is meant for temporary use. *Doesn't even have a TPMS sensor.

my concern is not so much with size as it is with the two different brand tires on a NEW truck . I don,t think that is good business
FORD messed up as far as I am concerned .... the dealer wont do anything about it
SO I will spread the word....

For something that has been said is for emergency use, a Goodyear wrangler is a good tire to have.

I know when it comes time for me to change my tires again I am not going to go out and see what spare tire I have and only go with that brand tire.

That is actually one of the greatest ideas I've ever heard I am going to do that. And it's cheap!

The issue would be that unless it is shrink-wrapped with ALL of the air removed, moisture would be trapped within -AND- even then any tear, hole-poke, etc. would allow infiltration.

MEANING: Accelerated corrison.
