Soon to possibly be new f-150 owner
Alright fellas, I'm a long time GM truck guy. I know, I know. Fed up with GM's bs. Might be trading in this junk afm motor truck for the only one of the big 3 who still doesn't have cylinder dod. So I'm here looking for advice. I'm looking at a few different years of the f-150. 2009-2012 pretty much. I really like the looks of the truck. All of them have the 5.4 and are 4wd. I guess I really only have a few questions. Is there any known issues with the f-150's of those years? Any common problems? Dependable? Has to be better than these afm motors for sure. I know I'm probably going to get beat up a little bit on being a GM guy, but seriously I'm fed up with the bs. Thanks everyone for the info.

I doubt anyone is going to bash you for being a GM guy. Maybe a little fun messing around, but nothing too bad. Ha. I don't know anything really about the 5.4. I've heard good things about the 5.0. You will probably get a few more views if you post in the 09-14 section and there will be people who know much more and bout e 5.4 than me. Anyway, hope you find some help and if you end up going ford I hope you enjoy it. I have!

I know it's not a 09-12 but my buddy has a lifted 2014 5.0 and has had nothing but good luck with that truck. His exhaust had a nice deep throaty sound to it and even after he put some straight pipes back there it still sounded good. He also gets pretty decent mpg in it. Good truck and engine for sure.

My dad has an 06 XLT with the 5.4L. Great engine. Aside from the nightmare/sticker shock of replacing the spark plugs (which is probably well documented here) he's had no problems with it.

09-10 are 5.4 ---- 11-14 are 3.5EB/5.0L
I've had a few minor issues with mine (5.0L). Nothing major. Same with my buddy with a 3.5EB. Both 2011 FX4s. Both trucks are around 55K miles, no breakdowns or anything. Only issue we have in common are O-rings or seals in the engine cooling system causing a slow leak.
I doubt anyone will badmouth you for having GM.
