Default something running and draining my battery

i have a 1989 ford f150 and somethiing is running or pumping down by the bottom of the transmission. I does it with the key off or on. the only way to stop it is to disconnest the battery cable.whatever it is running it uses a lot of current and drains the battery fast. I did get it to stop a couple of times by starting the truck and shifting through the auto transmission. now it is doing it again and if i connect the plus cable the noise returns, real loud and under truck on drivers side. maybe in torque converter. just checked with my volt meter and current draw is 5.75 amps
