Snow plow question
I have a 2010 XLT 4X4 and am considering a snow plow. A friend of mine told me that it will tear up my truck. What experience does everyone have with the snow plows? Are they that hard on a truck?
In a nutshell- YES, they are killer on trucks, and on F150s.
First- they block air flow to the rad. If you are taking a road trip, drop the plow and go naked.
Second, check your truck's GAWR (front) on the door sticker. I assume its 4000 lbs. My truck weighed 3388 at the front with people and gas. This leave 612 lbs for anything you wnat to put on the front. Add the hitch hardware, lights, pump or electrics for teh plow plus the plow- what's that weigh? If 500 lbs overall (add everything, not just the blade), then you are approaching the maximums. As well, with 500 lbs up front, you will need to add weight to the rear now to level.
Many places will ask you to install Timbrens or airbags up front to help level the front when the blade is on. These help level, they do not help with GAWRs.
Here's a good site to register and post your Q's too. Good luck.

I was told Boss plows and only Boss were recommended for the F150's.
Why only Boss I dont know. Maybe because they weigh less than normal.
After checking out Boss maybe I'm wrong. I thought they were the ones with the clear fiberglass blade.

i pretty much go with this rule.... 1/2 ton with a plow. do your own drive way and nothing more... 3/4 ton your drive way with maybe few accounts, small parking lots or family driveways. 1 ton commercial lots and alot of driveways. other wise driving around with a half ton and a plow WILLL tear stuff up
Any plow will slowly but surely kill the front end of an F150...it's just too much wear and tear on the joints and coilovers. Only truck I'd get with a plow is a Super Duty with the plow package.
