Default slow starting??

03 f150 5.4- turns over for at least 2-3 seconds before firing. if i turn key on and wait a short time before cranking it starts quicker. i had a z71 5.3 gmc and it did the same, so i replaced the fuel pressure regulator and it fixed it. could this be the same problem?

Hook it up to a battery charger and see if it does the same thing... I have seen it happen because the battery does not have enough of a charge...

and yes we are out here, the matrix is always watching...

Then the easy fix won't work... Are you having any lean issues??? Throwing codes (I assume no, otherwise you would have mentioned it), how is the starter??? If this is all it is doing, I would suggest leave it or you will be chasing the problem.

When no vacuum is present the regulator shuts and maintains maximum pressure. When you first start the truck and turn the key from LOCK on through to START the fuel pump activates and primes the system and continues to run as you release the key back to the RUN position. If the regulator is leaking it might not be shutting properly and allows pressure to drop. Put a gage on the schrader valve and run the engine then turn it off. You should hold 30-35 psi for a time. If it doesn't hold then the regulator is leaking. Unless there is a leak somewhere else.
