Slow acceleration.
Hey guys, I've had my 2010 Screw XLT 5.4 for about a month now, and love it.... I Love It! It is the only truck I've owned other than my first vehicle which was an 85' Chevy S-10 (loved it to).
The truck has 14,000 on the clock so I'd say it's just about broken in. It gets better gas mileage than the 99' Grand Cherokee I traded it in for, so no complaints with mpg ( 2 week average of about 17.6 mpg with 40%city 60% highway).
The only thing that isn't stock is the exhaust which is now true duals through an X-pipe, no muffler.
I've noticed the truck seems to keep really low RPM. I can easily cruise 45 MPH at about 1400 RPM range, and 70 MPH well under 2000 RPM. This is great because even running AC I get what I consider to be pretty good gas mileage.
My issue is with the lack of torque, at any speed or RPM. Its like when I hit the gas (floor it, or gradually) the truck takes a few seconds to wake up and get going. I ran a red light today that I certainly should have made because from almost a dead stop my truck took forever to get going.
I understand the lack of back pressure from no muffler may cause some lack of torque and all, but this seems like a low amount from a V-8.
The only diagnostic I've done is a SYNC health check (which who knows how accurate that is?) and it came out clean.
I'll sum it up, my truck seems slow, really slow for a V-8. Only thing changed is the exhaust, but really?
Any help?

You need to get a tune loaded into your ecu. Ford sandbags power in most of the motors and doesn't give you full WOT until the higher rpm's.
They tune the trucks for say the lowest common denominator for liability. The don't want some young kid getting in and hitting the gas and going sideways.
So to get Best throttle response search the forum for "engine tune" or tune for example. I have a tune created by a company called 5 star. They load it onto a device called a ScT x3 I believe. it's about $350 but the best $ for performance you can buy.
If this doesn't do it for you then ya you may need to go to 3:73 in the rear end or higher. Do you know what you have for gears? This would sacrifice mileage. The tune may actually help mileage as long as you can keep your foot out if it!

Sorry man. I realize knowledge of gear ration should be standard and all, but I don't know it. I don't expect a speed machine or anything, so I guess I just kinda figured even the weakest ratio would give enough torque to meet my needs, but it's pretty much the weakest acceleration I've ever had, with the biggest engine.
Interested in the tune you suggested, but just seems I shouldn't have to get a custom tune to make my truck run like a V-8.
