Should I get a TomTom
My sister and brother both have navigation units and its pretty handy, so I'm thinking about getting one. I think they both have Tomtoms, should I go for that or do you have any suggestions?
Bought my wife a Tom Tom and she loves it. I haven't bought a lot of gps units but when I bought hers I found out that when buying, make sure you buy it with free lifetime updates cause if you don't it's like another $80-$90 to buy the little card to update them.

Garmin. My ex wanted a TomTom because that's what she had heard about and thought was better. On multiple occasions ours lost its damn mind and had us exit the highway, drive a mile or so, make a U-turn, and then get back on the highway. All instances of this happening would (had we continued on the road we exited on) have taken us in generally the right cardinal direction, and eventually hit another large road which would have taken us to our destination. But once TomTom figured out that the path we were originally traveling was still shorter and faster, it apparently changed its mind. I wasn't pleased with the build quality either, as the GPS receiver lost signal on a number of occasions, and then just died completely at about the 1 1/2 year point. Every Garmin I've owned since has had zero of these issues, and as the interfaces have updated, the 'gap' in available data has closed.

I have a Garmin, my girlfriend has a TomTom. I love the Garmin. It always works perfect. The TomTom is weird. Several times it's had me get off the highway for about 2 miles and then get right back onto the same highway. It's kind of odd. Also, I noticed that the speedo on the Garmin is right on with all out vehicles while the TomTom is always off by 3 mph. Not really a big deal, but it's kind of a pet peeve. Overall, I'd buy a Garmin before a TomTom. Maybe the newer ones are better, I don't know.
