Does the truck in question have to be in 4 wheel drive before the diff. lock can be engaged? I'm asking because my 11 F350 does not. It'll work in 2 or 4.

I'm not 100% but I think most years do. The only ones I know that could lock in 2wd were the raptors and people who modified using raptor parts.

My 2014 XLT locks in 2WD. I use it a fair bit to get through snow or ice covered intersections when leaving stop signs.
