Default serious question

Hello I have a 2002 F150 with 160K miles on it. But my problem is my truck is either burning oil or leaking some where. I checks for leaks on the ground. But I never see any. What can trully be the problem. Because I will get an oil change, go on a five hour drive. And the oil tank will be empty and smokey. Can someone tell me what can be the problem.

if you can't see it leaking it, then it must be burning it. sounds like you need a engine rebuild

Default Mosquito Fogger:

If the truck is burning that much oil it would be laying down a cloud of smoke that would have you in jail in California.

Have someone tail you while you coast down a hill in gear and get a report on the amount of smoke coming from the pipe(s). Other than that, investigate the undersides of the truck and look for obvious oil-wet areas.

Default fuel issue?

What kind of mpg are you getting. Possible injector leak? Passing gas by rings to dilute the oil and burn? Just a thought.

Wow that is some serious use of oil!!! I would check valve seals first, get someone to follow, and see if you get lots of smoke on throttle back and re-accelerate, if that is the case, it's a lot cheaper than a re-build to replace valve seals!! Good Luck just re-building my 351W pictures soon!!

Thank you for the reply. But I was told the piston rings has gone bad. I think that is what it is called. All I can say is time for a new truck.

I was in a similar boat with my 01 when I got my 08. If you want to move up go for it, but if you dont want the payment rebuild that puppy. Is the tranny still strong?
