Screwed up big time!!
I'm new to the site but not new to trucks. I live in Oregon and own a 2005 F-150 xtra cab, 4X4, with the 5.4. Been having Ford service it at 3000 miles and when it was suggested that the fuel filter be changed for $69.95, I passed because, "I can do that." Actually I have, and changed them on my Ranger many times. Anyway, I bought a new Motocraft filter from Ford, $24.95, and I thought, $40.00 labor to change the thing?? It wasn't like the Ranger, which had removable clips. Also, I didn't pay close enough attention to the post in the maintenace section where one of the members had pictures of the quick disconnect tool(s) needed, and pictures of removing the fuel line from the filter. That's where I screwed up, I didn't pay close enough attention to the picture to notice that you're disconnecting the QD on the fuel line, on the fuel tank side, then after the filter is diconnected with the tool from the engine side, you then remove the hose from the filter.
I now have what the Marines call a FUBAR, I screwed up both of the clips (blue one that connects the hoses, and tan one that connects to filter) holding the disconnect fittings. I have some clips securing the new filter now, but it's mickey mouse, and IMHO, unsafe. Ford doesn't stock the clips, so you have to buy new fuel lines, roughly $150, which is ridiculous.
Does anybody know where these clips can be purchased or if you had this problem before, how did you rememdy it.
Thanks,
Bob Warren

OUCH, sorry to here that. I'm really not sure what kind of options you have other than to replace them to be done right. I posted that info. At first I was real nervous about doing it on mine. I went out and bought a Hanes manual to guide me through it. After looking in there I understood how these clips release and it was pretty easy. I would suggest getting one for other maintenance items. Good luck with it, hopfully there is a cheaper fix.
Little update here. Ford has apparently released a service kit for the blue clip If you break it.
Here are the part numbers: 5/16" is part #7L3Z-9A317-A, 3/8" is part #7L3Z-9A317-B
