Default Scraping\roaring noise from the front end

Alright, so i tried to record the scraping noise with my phone tonight, please bear in mind the following things.

1) The audio is really low, i'm sorry, you'll have to turn up your volume quite loud to hear it.
2) It might sound like wind at first, but it's a still night, and notice the speed is pretty low.
3) It's not really noticeable until just under 15 mph
4) Switching to 4x4 doesn't make it go away, if anything, it's marginally louder.

Some more information.

You can almost feel it through the steering wheel, and almost through the floor.

The axles lock with engine off.
The axles disengage with engine on in 2Hi.

Sounds like you have a bad IWE going on. What you describe is what I felt when my driver side failed.

Can you say what part is bad? i'm assuming it's the bearing portion, rather than any of the hub locking function?

I was going to try and pull a wheel today and open the hub to check for grease.

The IWE and wheel bearing are 2 separate parts. You can replace them separately. No need to replace both unless the IWE ground enough to send shards into the wheel bearing. Mine was the IWE where you'd hear some grinding, felt it in the steering wheel and felt like something giving the truck a light jerk. That jerking was getting the half shafts a jerky start from not turning to trying to fully engage the IWE while at speed. Sort of like the drag you feel when you switch from 2WD to 4WD while moving however, it is a lot more harsh. Imagine engaging the IWE before the TC even started to spin the half shaft up to match your speed.

Alright, i'm not certain if it's engaging or not, i think i've heard that for those with the IWE issue, it will go away when you engage 4Hi? if that's the case, then i'm not getting that.

Oh, ok, so it could still be an IWE issue, but not vacuum related?

Is there a good way to check this, can i pull something and inspect?
