Default Rust at the bottom corner of crew cab

Hi all,

My 2009 is now starting to show the rust and paint bubbling at the rear bottom corner of the crew cab - on both sides. I'm thinking of fixing this now - before it gets worse - but would like opinions from others who have had this fixed. I would like to keep the truck for many more years.

For those that had this looked at or replaced at the body shop, was it an easy repair? Expensive? Did it turn out well and was it worth it?

Thanks all - I appreciate your feedback.

Rob

Good luck, and don't forget to post your experience. I just traded in my 2013 that had the cab corners rusting out already. Pretty disappointed in that Ford truck, it should NOT have been rusting out so soon. I kept it washed regularly, and in my opinion there has been a lack of engineering from Ford to not prevent this issue. I traded in a 2007 in 2014 for the 2013, and it had baseball sized holes on both sides of the truck in the cab corners of the SuperCrew. Unacceptable if you ask me. I've been a loyal Ford fan my entire life but I can't argue with anyone about them rusting out. I know they all do it, but I feel that Ford has let their owners down big time by this happening on trucks that are 5 years old. I took the 2013 back to Ford prior to the 5 year, 100K mile period with the paint bubbling up in the cab corners and was told by more than one dealer that unless there is a hole, you are on your own. Very bad in my view.

Had a corner on my 2006 replaced for $450. Took it to a small one man restoration shop, guy shaped it himself and had it completely done in a day (with paint). None of the body shops would do rust repair due to the liability of it coming back. Had it done for 9 months before someone ran a red light and totaled the truck.

that is correct, its a "rust-through" warranty. same as pretty much everyone else.

I got both sides fixed on my 2005 3 years ago (I traded it on a new 2017 in January 2017). Both sides cost $500 at a small local shop. They called it a "cab corner" job and said it was common in F150 Super Crews. They said the repair would last 2-3 years before starting to bubble again. 2 years after the repair it still looked perfect.

It was very worth it IMO.

Edit: Cost was $500 total, not each side

I agree Mark, it is definitely worth it to me too. I still think it is unacceptable since Ford knew about this problem long ago and did nothing to stop it.
