Default Running 93 octane on my new 2017 truck

so the ol lady took my truck today she puts gas in it today like she always does she calls me to say the cas mileage is dropping fast from 389miles to empty to 339 miles to empty she only went 12 miles total today ! I asked her what gas did she put in the truck and she said 93 ! I get home from to go to my appointment it's 8-11 miles over there 339 miles to empty when I got there it was 316 now it's stuck at 300 miles

to empty so my paranoia is will it damage the motor ? Cuz I called the dealer ship after she told me and made appointment lol

Will what damage the motor? 93 octane? Generally, the higher the octane, the better. Maybe she got unlucky and put in some bad gas at the pump. Rarely happens but it can. I knew this one gas station by my place where the truck driver accidentally dumped diesel into the 87 tank. Lot of pissed off people that day.

DTE (Distance to Empty) has NOTHING to do with the gas you put in it. It is based solely off the most recent 500 miles driven. One reason for a drop like that could be a low tank and the truck parked on a steep incline. It throws it off, because the tank reading is wrong. Then, after maybe a dozen miles on flat road, it pops back up.

All 93 octane did was waste your money.

well I was reading where it burns slower in 87 rated cars like I notice it was dropping by 2-3s every mile it ranked on the odometer think it's not burning all the way cuz I can smell rich fuel

The 93 Octane gas won't hurt anything but your wallet since it costs more. Stop looking at the DTE readout and just drive the truck. All that is, is a rough estimate based on your driving habits. It might well go up over 400 the next time you get in the truck, or drop by 50 miles after driving around town for a few minutes. Fill it with 87 octane next time and save some money.

93 octane will in no way harm your truck. but under most conditions 87 octane is recommended. With some engines 89, 91 or 93 recommended for heavy haul or towing never use 85 octane available as regular in some states at higher elevation's Not to be confused with E85 in a flex fuel vehicle. All of this is spelled out in the owners manual.

Higher octane fuel is never a bad idea imo. You end up paying like $3 extra for a fill up, lol. Not exactly breaking the bank.
