Default rough start

I recently bought a 2006 f-150 with the 4.6 triton When you first start it up in the morning or after sitting all day, it starts right up but runs rough for about 3 seconds, then runs fine. It will start smooth after that, unless it sits all day. Is this normal?

not neccesarily normal persay, but could happen. do you know when the last service was done? how many miles do you have? is your airfilter clean? are you getting gas from a busy gas station?

check the throttle position sensor thats what it sounds like it could also be the cold start valve although im not positive those trucks have that valve kinda odd for 41,000 miles

Thumbs up Same issue, Old fix

I had a similar problem with My 06 F150 4.6. Seems like after the battery was changed she forgot the idle codes. Then I tried an old trick i did on a gm quite a few years back. Parked against a block, put truck in neutral, shut off engine, restart engine in neutral, DO NOT TOUCH GAS OR BRAKES. Let the engine idle for 15 minutes or until the cooling fans cycle (cut in). I also turned off all accessories inside the truck (ie fans, radio, cell charger) just to be certain that I could hear the cooling fan cut in. Been over a week now and truck purrs like a kitten. No stutters or stammerring, not revving up and down at the lights anymore. Perhaps a more tecnical Guru can ellaborate on the trick.
