Roll On Bed Liner Tips

Roll On Bed Liner Tips
I am planning on putting Herculiner in the bed of my 04 sometime soon. My bed has quite a few scratches and it just looks bad. I don't use my bed a ton so I can't justify paying for Line-x. I want something that looks decent and will hold up to occasional use. I have a few questions for those who have done a roll on bed liner.
First- Should I pull the cargo hooks out that are on the lower part of the bed or just leave them in?
The panel on the tailgate that can be taken off to get at the handle, should that be taken off and done sep. or can I just leave it on? If I leave it on, will I have problems getting the panel off again?
How much herculiner will I need? 04 with 6.5ft bed.
Thanks

When they do a Line-X they remove the cargo hooks, the panel on the tail gate and the screws in the bed. I went ahead and paid to have it done. I wouldn't want to do all that prep work.
ETA: You would never be able to get the tailgate panel off again unless you remove it for application.

Yes, Pull everything out, and tape everything up. The more time you spend in prep, the better it will come out. I just got done doing mine this weekend. Here is the link to mine.

1 gallon should suffice. Just remove or tape everything you don't want to get the liner on. Take time to scuff and clean properly and all will be good, I did a boat trailer and have been happy so far.

I used herculiner on two of my pickups, for a 6.5' bed I used a gallon and some of an extra quart, you don't want to end up short. It was easier to tape up the hooks and I removed the tailgate and access cover in case I ever needed to remove it in the future. It has held up pretty well with medium duty usage. Take your time on the prep and it should hold up pretty well. It took a good part of a day for prep and two coats, but it comes out nice when done right.

Just going to bump this up.
Where did you stop when it comes to the tailgate? Did you put bedliner on where the tailgate and bed meet? Does anyone have pictures of their bed after?
