Rim offset question
I have been looking to order a set of Ballistic Jester rims to go on my 04 F150 fx4 with a 2.5 in leveling kit but I don't know what offset to go with. Right now I have the stock rims with 295 75 r18 nitto all terrains and will keep the same tires. I want a wider stance but I don't want a stance that is ridiculous and looks stupid. They make them in positive or negative 12 mm offset and I can't decide which to go with. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
What is the width of the new wheels you're looking at?
Stock wheels have about 6" of backspacing usually. Assuming they are 7.5" wide, that means they have about +40 or so offset. You've got 1.5" of wheel outboard of the hub.
Let's assume you're going with a 9" wide wheel and you want the outer face of the wheel to stick out 2" farther than stock. So you want a total of 3.5" of wheel sticking outboard of the hub. That means you want 5.5" of backspacing. That would put you at roughly +12 offset.
If you go with a negative offset, the wheels will stick WAY out. A very slight positive offset will make them stick out only a little. A large positive offset will make them sit like factory stance.
