Default Replacing standard mirrors with Trailer Tow lost front & side view cameras

Does anyone know why I would lose the front and side view cameras when I replaced the standard mirrors on my 2024 XLT that has power mirrors, manual fold, BLISS, and 360° camera. With trailer tow mirrors that have power mirrors, manual fold, BLISS, and 360° camera?

I can't stand these small *** mirrors this came with so i bought OEM Trailer Tow part # ML3Z17696CA which have all the same options and configurations as the stock mirrors. But now the 360° camera doesn't work, nor does my emergency rear backing brake function. I lost the front camera as well.

These were easily installed, now modifications required, plugged right up to the existing harnesses.

Do they need to be calibrated or some other change made in the PCM, BCD, or GEN module, since the camera placement might not be in the exact place as the standard mirror cameras were located?

Following. I am waiting for a sale so I can pull the trigger on the Boost Auto towing mirrors. Their website walks you though what you currently have and what you might want to upgrade to and, like you, I am understanding it should just work. In all fairness I do not have BLIS or the 360 cams, so I might be ok since all that is understandably "more involved". Just waiting to see what the comments here will be.

But I do agree, the small mirrors suck and how so many truck owners put up with that crap is beyond me! I had towing mirrors for 12 years on my 09 Lariat and I grit my teeth a little every time I glance into my 2020 OEMs. Sure I can see everything I need to, but it is not the same.

Thank you.

I looked into the Boost mirrors and was going to go that route until I saw they do not support the 360°cameras. 2nd thought, maybe they did but it was an additional $650 and I was already at $850 with my build.
They do support BLISS though. Boost offered being able to upgrade to power fold and telescope even if your truck did not come with it using a wireless upgrade option.

I miss my power fold on my 2012. I used it every time I parked in a lot. It would be very handy with these trailer tow as they really stick out there. After driving with these little mirrors for 6 months it takes an adjustment having these on there.

I did see on another thread, from 2023, I guess the admin's linked this to it. That they need to be recalibrated due to the cameras on the smaller mirrors moved with the mirror housing. Whereas the trailer tow mirrors are part of the fixed position mount, so they'll still work when folded in.

Appreciate the input and welcoming. Been on here for a couple years, first post though.

Yeah I was at about $700 on my build and then I remembered how many times I had to manually fold in the mirrors on my 09 and how much of a PITA it was. I usually park far away from everyone, but sometimes you just don't have a choice. So yeah, I think my last build was about $1100. Oh well. I'll justify it with "Life it too short" I suppose. Apparently, I've heard they have sales a few times a year around holidays.

Good luck with yours.

Well update to this problem. Trucks at the dealer now for misc. nuisance issues. Had them check this camera issue out and they've been on the "hotline" with FoMoCo and apparently this is an issue that they don't have a fix for. It has something to do with the cameras unquie address that's hard-coded into the camera.

Being a Controls Engineer for many years now it sounds like a MAC ID issue with the hardware. Normally in my world we can reconfigure the module to accept the new MAC ID or Static IP address but OBD II systems still use a CAN Buss communication system so this sounds like a viable problem. They're recommendation is to swap the cameras out of the old mirrors into the new mirrors. I really hope these are modular and are swappable. It would make sense that these would be modular but it also doesn't make much sense that you can't recode the addressing in the PCM or BCD module. I mean how the hell did they configure it to begin with?

I used to do PCM and BCD troubleshooting and repair in the garage at Ford's SLAP before they closed in 07. Moving to a Tier 1 supplier, Faurecia, handling seating for GM. I left the automotive manufacturering sector in 2018. So, im not completely ignorant of how these systems work, just a little dated.

Another update on this. I took the cameras out of the standard mirrors, not the simplest of tasks, mai ly due to needing to remove the glass. Once you have it out really straight forward. Removing cameras from TT mirrors was much easier. Had I known I could have popped out the piece the camera is mounted in without removing the mirrors from the truck I would have done it that way.

At any rate, swapping the cameras worked. 360° and auto-braking in reverse is now operational. I did get a fault from the cross traffic detection system when i went to drive it, not sure why, but it fixed itself the next time I started the truck.

Thanks to those who offered up advice, greatly appreciate the input. Hope the follow through on this helps any doing the same.
