Only replace the cams if any of the lobes are chewed up from roller follower failure as he states. Check for worn follower bearings as well…I would replace those before replacing the cams.
Thank you! That gives me a little peace of mind so far. I’ll do this and update here with the measurements. The cam lobes are actually very smooth with no roller follower damage. I guess I’m one of the few lucky ones where the followers didn’t take a crap before I got in here.

Alright, so I just did the plasti-gauge using the green (.001 - .003 in. clearance range) and they all fell in the .002 range. I’m assuming I did this properly as I placed between the caps and the camshaft and torqued to specs in the proper order and sequence. Should I have used the red instead (.002 - .006 in range)?
I’ve attached pics as well.

Looks good to me, you left all the roller followers out when you reinstalled the cams and used the plasti-gauge, correct?

If so, you are well within spec limit. I would put them back in and carry on. Check all the roller followers to ensure none of the bearings are worn out/replace as necessary.

Yes sir. The roller followers were all out when checked. Sounds good. Thank you again.

From this video it appears he just reused the cam caps but also makes no mention of it so not entirely sure. As for the cam towers, those I’ve since confirmed are not serviceable so you would need a new head if there was an issue with them or you wanted to replace those.
My followers are still solid but I got all new ones anyways to replace. I’ll keep looking out for a post here to confirm the cam cap question. Thanks again.
You can have them bored out and bearings put in.
