Default Replacing Brake Fluid

I am about to do a Brake fluid flush On my 03 F150. I want to siphon out the old fluid out of the master cylinder and replace it with fresh fluid so I am not pushing all of that old fluid through the lines, however I can only siphon out about 1/4 to 1/2 of the old fluid because the float for the fluid level sensor is in the way.

Can this float be removed without causing any damage?

If so, does it simply lift out?

Thanks in advance.

Why are you doing it that way ? To get a true flush siphon out as much as you can from Mc then refill and bleed each wheel until clean fluid. Done.

I would just get out what is easy to syphon.....then bleed each wheel until clean. Don't worry about getting out ALL the 'old' stuff first....it will be flushed out anyways and it doesn't take that long to do (It's not like syphoning more from the reservoir is saving you an hour to get the new brake fluid through the system). You are over-thinking it.

I'd leave the float alone, they have small plastic tabs that can snap easily making the job become more than it should be. Get what you can, flush the crap out of it, (brake fluid is cheap, considering the quantity).

You said you didn't want to push all the old fluid through. But you won't have a choice. Siphon out what is easy and fill with clean - slowly so it doesn't mix too much.

the other way is to start flushing after you've removed all you can, and be real careful to get as much out of the master cylinder reservoir as possible without sucking air into the MC. then re-fill with fresh.

Brake fluid isn't that expensive, get 2 quarts. Get a friend and some brews and keep going until it's done right.
