Replaceing 5.0 in 1995 F150
I have been told and it seems likely that my 5.0 engine has a knocking rod and I'm wondering if I can tackle changeing it out myself. Is it possible that someone has the information needed to do this project? I have found a salvage yard engine with 119,000 miles for $700.00 and I would really like to get my truck back on the road.
Thanks for any help.

Replacing is a medium job if you have all the right tools n a budy or 2 to help you. If I were you I would do the required mantainence while swaping out the engine. Example, sparks plugs, belt, fluid flushes, ect....

An engine hoist, transmission hoist and load-leveler are a must as well as lots of patience.

I replaced the engine in my old '85 Chev diesel using an engine hoist and a chassis jack modified to make it a tran hoist. The job was not a piece of cake, but it slowly came along with a minimum of bruised knuckles.

I changed my first engine when I was 15, its pretty easy. Get an engine crane or make a sturdy a-frame with a chain fall. Just take your time and mark all the electrical and lines that you take off to make the install easier. With a engine crane you may have to take the grill and core support out to get it to clear the front of the truck.
