Has anyone etched off, removed with chemicals, etc the dot matrix on the windshield? This is the black dotted material at the top center of the windshield near the rear view mirror.

On my previous 2 windshields, the dot matrix was embedded inside the glass, so was not possible. My new replacement glass, the dot matrix is on the interior, can feel it. Not looking to remove it all, but hoped to etch off a portion of it to tuck a radar detectors and/or cameras up above the mirror.

If anyone has had any luck with this, would appreciate any feedback.

I'm also wondering , I bought a dash ( on order)cam and its mount is a lever pull suction. I own a 2015 f150 that also has a dot matrix I can feel with my fingers , my question is three part ; what is the dot matrix for and if I place the suction mount directly on it will it pull off the matrix or not stick ?

 

I asked a local audio shop about installing one of those rear view mirrors that has the rear camera and they told me they wouldn't do it because of the dot matrix. They said it was quite the chore but I didn't dig for details. My guess is it may not be worth it if someone who charges for services balked on a money making opp.

 

To block sunlight from blinding you when it's at just the right angle where the visors won't block.
