Remote starter blues
Have a $50,000 truck in Northeastern Alberta - in the middle of winter, and my remote starter won't start truck unless I am within 200 feet of unit. Called dealer and the response I got was - Yeah they are not very good from the factory! Ford-you oughta be ashamed of yourselves.
My dealer gave me a $50 Avital (paid nothing for them to install it, long story). They claim they are better than the Ford OEM. But the range isn't spectacular either and I need to have clear view so I can see if it works by the lights flashing.
My range varies also, depending on the day, how I hold my mouth, if I'm standing on the correct foot, etc. etc. etc.
You could try a new battery in the FOB. Never know, that may help.

My remote start on my 2013 FX4 sucks too. My shop is about 200 feet from the house. I have to be half way to the garage before it will start. The whole purpose for a remote start is to warm the truck up before driving it and so its warm when you get in it.... not to sit in a cold truck and wait for it to warm up. I could start my 08 FX4 from my bed. The only answer I get from the dealer is they tell me my 08 must have had a better antenna and 100 feet for the new truck is acceptable. Is there a good way to solve this problem?
