Default Remote Start Add-Ons

I've searched the forums and haven't found much in the way of remote start add-ons for F150s with factory keyless entry.

I've installed countless keyless entry and alarm systems in my years working as a mechanic but I've never crossed the line into remote starts but I'm thinking I can do this.

I have a 2010 F150 XLT Crew Cab 4.6 Liter. I'm considering installing the following RS4-G4 from CrimeStoppers:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/110698754501

It comes with the bypass module and wiring diagram.

Does anyone have any pointers? Do's or Don'ts? Better set ups for around the $100 price range?

Maybe somebody can chime in, I think it's possible to add a factory remote start to your truck.

not sure on the 2010, but on my 2012 I put in the factory series 100 ... super easy, you can nearly throw the parts at the truck and they'll plug themselves in

the dealer needs to enable it via the computer, and cut the keys ... but the actual install is maybe 10 minutes tops

11-14 are plug-n-play, older models require splice-n-dice.

My 2014 KR has factory remote start. At first I figured meh, another gizmo I won't use.
Man was I wrong. I now use it almost each time I drive the truck.
It's nice in the FL summer heat.

It's even better in the winter.

Just wish I could figure out a way to have my A/C & Heated seats to come on automatically. If there on and I shut the truck off when I restart there off, need to manually turn them back on. Also wish I could get Max A/C to come in with autostart, it only turns normal A/C on when using autostart even if I left Max on last time I shut the truck off.

Just my two cents. I would never buy another factory remote starter. The range is junk. I had my dealer put a new antena on the truck and a new receiving unit and still no better. With all the technology out there these days and smart phone the after market ones would be my next choice. That is just what I experienced.

Wayne,
Not sure about your year truck but in my 2013 FX4 there is a setting in the info menu in the dash. I believe you can set remote start to calculate the current temp and adjust climate control when remote start is activated or maintain the last settings when truck was turned off.
Meaning if you left it on high when you shut it off it should be on high when you remote start it.
I use the auto climate control so depending on if its hot or cold out when I remote start my truck the seats and AC/heat adjust and turn on automatically based on what the temp is outside. In Texas its nice to remote start and get in the truck and the seats are blowing AC and the climate control is on max cold.
May want to explore your setting in the dash screen as I think you may find some options there.
If your truck came with remote start the details should be in your manual.
You also didn't say if it was a factory remote or aftermarket. I'm only referring to the factory remote.
Cheers
Danny

Wayne,
If its factory then I know you have the option settings in your dash.
When I leave my climate control on auto and remote start everything works including seats before I get in the car.
Below is the steps to change your settings, hope this helps.

From the manual:Automatic Climate Systems

Automatic Settings
You can set the climate control to operate in AUTO mode through the
information display setting: Remote Start > Climate Control > Heater –
A/C > Auto. The climate control system automatically sets the interior
temperature to 72°F (22°C).

In hot weather, the system is set to 72°F (22°C). Cooled seats are set to
high (if available, and selected to AUTO in the information display).
In moderate weather, the system either heats or cools (based on
previous settings). The rear defroster, heated mirrors and heated/cooled
seats are not automatically turned on.
In cold weather, the system is set to 72°F (22°C). The heated seats
are set to high (if available, and selected to AUTO in the information
display). The rear defroster and heated mirrors are automatically turned
on. If it is desired to have the system operate in defrost mode, select
AUTO for Heater – A/C. Also select AUTO for front defrost in the
information display.
Last Settings
You can set the climate control to operate using the last climate control
settings through the information display setting: Remote Start > Climate
Control > Heater – A/C > Last Settings.
The climate control system
automatically uses the settings last selected before the vehicle was
turned off.
Heated and Cooled Devices
The climate control system controls other heated and cooled devices
inside the vehicle. These devices (if available, and selected to AUTO in
the information displays) may also be switched on during remote start.
Heated devices are typically switched on during cold weather, and cooled
devices during hot weather.
