Default Rear Window Defrost

Just wanted to share what I found out on my rear window. I have a 11' screw and the rear window defrost quit working(known problem). Went to the dealership, they inspected it but said it was not covered under my extended service warranty. Made a call to ford directly, boom problem solved. If any of you have this problem, and your still under warranty, they have to put the part number for the actual window heating element for it to be warrantied. My dealer ship was using the rear window part number, which is not covered, but the heating element is. So next week I get my new rear window installed.

Thank you for sharing this, bbrczx10! I'm glad to hear that calling into our Customer Relationship Center helped you solve this. Please keep me posted regarding the new rear window your dealership will be installing; I'll be here if you have any questions!

Thanks for sharing.

I'm afraid mine in my '14 may have just failed as well. This morning I backed out of the driveway, and I never could get the switch light to come on, or the rear window and mirrors to clean up. Sure seems like something there has failed.

Disappointing too. I bought it brand new on July 31st of this year. The dealership I bought it at, is over an hour south of my house, I work two hours northeast of home. I hope the dealer in my hometown doesn't give me any grief about taking care of a warranty issue. It's my only reasonable option in this rural area.

The dealer that's closest to you should be just fine, Wanna Ride. They're independently owned and operated, so you're not tied down to your purchasing dealership. Feel free to get in contact to the nearest one using this tool.

I'll escalate this to the regional customer service manager for your area. Please send me a private message with your full name, current mileage, VIN, servicing dealership, and best daytime contact number. I'll get started right away!

If someone doesn't have the Extended Warranty, is this repair only covered under the 3yr/36k Basic Warranty? The rear defrost on my 2011 Limited just died in the middle of a Wisconsin winter and I've got 58k on the odometer...that's an expensive truck to have options failing on it so soon. I loved my 2001 Supercrew, and stuck with the F-150 based on my success with that truck...hope this can get resolved.

I suggest touching base with your dealership about this, dukes; they'll best be able to advise you of warranty information for a specific part or situation. Here's the link to the dealer locator tool; please use this to schedule an upcoming appointment.

Please keep me posted!

I was wondering the same thing. I bought a 2011 ford fx4 crew and the rear defroster doesn't work. Dealership is 2 hours away but I have a local dealership. Guess I'll have to give them a try. Anyone has any advice please pass it along. Thanks.

I just called my dealership and they said it wouldn't be covered and that they would have to diagnose it first. I'm surprised ford didn't do recall on defected ones with so many problems. If you can find out what it would have cost you?

Same issue on my 2011 FX4 with less than 22k miles! No extended warranty and a few months out of the standard warranty. $700 CAD including taxes to replace the rear glass. That also included the initial charge to diagnose. Stupid that I should have to pay $700 out of pocket for an obvious manufacture defect. Especially on a $50k+ vehicle with so few miles on it!!!

I called my local dealership and was told to contact Ford directly due to my mileage. So I called Ford, they were nice, and took my info, but informed me I'm basically out of luck and need to pay for the repair myself. At least the incident/failure is officially documented.

I encourage everyone else with this issue to get it documented!
