Question Rear wheel traction problem

I picked up a used 1995 F150 2wd. On the way home I stopped at a gas station. Was on level ground but there was ice under one wheel. I tried to start up and one wheel just spun. I couldn't go anywhere without giving it a push. I've never had this problem in a car unless in snow where it was digging in. Doesn't the differential send any torque to the other wheel at all? Is there a problem with the differential? It has brand new tires. I also got stuck in my driveway when I got home which had packed snow on it. My Suburban makes it up the driveway just fine in 2 wheel drive. I'm going to load up the back end with some weight but I was wondering if this was normal. Maybe the front brakes are dragging but I didn't notice any drag.

Good ol open differential for ya. It sends power to the path of least resistances. Time for a Limited Slip or True Trac!

Yup. Lookup on Google open, vs limited slip, vs locked differentials.
