Default rear camera issues

Have an F-150 2014 3.5L Eco XLT...when putting into reverse, the screen display for the camera would be blank and no rear view camera at all. Next time it would work, then wk again, then later it would not.

Took it in, they replaced the rear camera, then did a software update. Worked fine for a week or so, now it has done it again 2 more times randomly. No rhyme or reason as to when or why.

Has anyone else ran into this, and if so, did you get it fixed permanently? if so, what did Ford do to fix it? Mine is still under warranty.

Thank you very much,
tstes

I just purchased a new 16 F150 and I had this exact same issue on the second day I owned my pickup. I got under the tailgate and disconnected the backup camera and blew out the connector with compressed air and boom it started working again. I wrapped it pretty good with electrical tape to make sure it did not come loose again. Maybe something to try?

Thanks Jake.

How many times did the camera go blank on you in two days vs how many times did it work. that's not a lot of history, but it sure is an interesting observation.

did you notice anything being blown out of the connectors when you hit it w compressed air? do you drive on dusty roads or anything like that?

Thanks, tstex

Actually the connector looked clean, there was what looked like some white residue on the contacts. The camera went out several times the second day and all I would get would be a black screen. For no reason I could find it was very sporadic and that was why I was assuming it was either a short or loose contact somewhere. So I started at the camera itself and as soon as I unplugged the camera and plugged it back in, the display started working again.

I have not looked at the set-up yet. But what you are explaining is that when you unplugged the male-plug, they looked good buy the female receptacles had the white residue that was removed w an air compressor? If so, then that makes sense bc Iam sure the dealership most likely did a plug-n-play. It was also noted on the computer error log that the camera has failed intermittently too.
