Question Realistic to have a Lift as a Dad?

I'm 30 with 2 young kids. 4 and 1. Love my family and love being a Dad. With that said, I have always wanted a lifted truck. Until now, there was no way I could afford such a luxury. All it would take is one swipe of the card and I would have my dream come true.....

But, is it ridiculous to be a Dad of young kids and have a 6" lift with 35's? Sounds cool but is it practical. Car seats, groceries, etc, would be an issue right? I am wanting to hear opinions from other Dads out there. Will people judge me for not investing more in my kids college savings or paying off my home early? I finally have a job with an actual salary and I feel like if I spend it on anything I want then I am in the wrong. Believe me, my kids are not going without. They have 10 times the stuff that I had as a child. Does anyone feel the same way? Should I go with my gut and put some 33's and a level kit on there and call it a day?

Well, my best friend has a Dodge with the 35x12x20's and a level, I don't even like climbing into it. I'm 6' tall. Mind you he has no running boards or side steps.

His first baby comes in a week.

We will see how long he has the truck!

Another buddy has a jacked up F350 like 10 inches and tires far north of 37 inch. He has 3 kids, but he is a ridiculous type.

He has even said, "that truck is so impractical"

Car seats would be the only downfall I think.

I would just do what your gut feeling tells you.

If your kids are only 4 and 1 right now, you will have years to save up for the college education. When my kids were that young, I had a lifted Toyota 4Runner that everyone called 'Tonka'. Never had a issue with putting them in or our of the truck, never had a problem with groceries, my kids or family never went without and I was only a Corporal in the military at the time, single income. If you want that for your truck and your family isn't going to suffer because of it, then I say go for it...spend the money for a proper lift (not a fan of leveling kits) and the 35's (not a fan of small tires either), you still have to be happy in life right, don't care what anybody says!

If you're talking about the removeable car seats, it might be a slight pain. Get some nerf bars or auto side steps. They come down lower than the factory IIRC. My son is 4 right now and he's the only one that has a problem getting in and out at stock height. My other two have gotten in and out of the same generation truck as mine with a 4" lift and 35's.

By the way. It doesn't matter what people think you should do with the money you earned. It's your money. Period. Just make sure you get a quality lift and install/have it installed by sombody that does great work.

Oh come on really?

You're running to an internet forum to ask what people will think of you as a father because of your truck?

Depends on how high a lift I guess. A mild lift probably isn't a big problem unless the wife complains.

Personally, if it were my only vehicle then I'd leave it alone as it's now become the family hauler. But if I had a second vehicle then I'd do whatever I want with the truck.

LOL yea can't help with this part of the question as it's totally up to the dad to decide what's appropriate for his family.

Screw people's opinions on how you spend your money. That said lifted trucks are a pain in my opinion,?with little ones. I like the kids to be able to do things on there own and having to lift then up every time we leave is a hastle. They eventually get big enough to do it on there own. Im biased as I have had lifted and now I just lower then all even the fx4.

As Manuel already mentioned Amp power steps would make life much easier with a lifted truck.

We also have a Tahoe which is the family hauler. I appreciate the feedback!
