Default Rattle update

So just got my 2018 F150 back from the dealership today they had it for one month they changed my cam phasers my VCT solenoids my fuel pump my timing chain tensioner yes it took a whole month to do all this and the rattle at low RPM upon deceleration is still there , mind you they had my vehicle for 30 days not to mention three weeks prior to this for a week at a time here in there as I pick up my truck today I talked to the service manager he told me that they had talked to an engineer Tech at ford this morning and as of right now they are working on a PCM update because that's what they believe the rattle is my confusion is what is making the rattle no one knows from dealerships technicians and from Ford nobody has an idea of where this rattle is coming from but I got my truck back but still the same problem as it had 30 days ago just thought I'd give anybody's having this issue an update

So they shot the parts cannon at it and that didn't fix it, and now they think it's the PCM, gee whiz. If possible I would take it somewhere else, or try to get them to replace it.

many years ago i had chevy cavalier the had a rattle on deceleration. for some reason one of the pistons was not sliding down the cylinder smoothly causing it to chatter on the way down. they had to bore cylinder and replace piston and its components.

mine did the same rattle under deceleration when it was still breaking in now that it has broken in and has 11k miles i never here it. my truck when it was new was clunky and has some hard shifts and clanks. had the clunk upon hot startup now that its broken in it has better fuel mileage and the shift are butter smooth. no clunk upon startup. at one point i even had the hot idle tick after the first oil change and thats gone too. its under warranty drive it unless it breaks down on you after 10-15k mile then see what hasn't cleared up and address it to your dealer.

Dkj43 - Any chance I could get you to post your experience in this thread? https://www.f150forum.com/f118/17-3-...rattle-401441/ . There are quite a few following this looking for the same answers you are and it sounds like you may be closer than any of us.

The thread I linked above has many people who have had the same parts changed and it hasn't fixed it on a single one of their trucks. Mine along with dozens of others I have communicated with had the diesel tick/knock when the truck was brand new. Only happened at warm idle and only on the passenger side. Really couldn't hear it at all while driving. The VCT Actuator (phaser) was bad. I feel like they must have had a bad batch on the new trucks. Sounds like you ended up with one of those for your replacement.

my original issue with the vehicle is a rattle noise upon deceleration after letting off the gas pedal at like 20 miles an hour I brought it in three times and they changed left catalytic converter My Hub actuators which have nothing to do with it they've changed my fuel pump and now they have changed my exhaust side cam phasers my VCT solenoids and I still have the rattle I've got messages from Ford to the dealership stating that changing these parts have fix the rattle and changing these parts haven't done anything and what Ford has said and I haven't writing that sense changing these parts as fixed some While others that has not it is now commonplace in such like other vehicles meaning some do it some don't and because it's a common noise there's nothing wrong Ford States as long as it's not a safety issue or going to hurt the engine because the oil is fine that they have exhausted all their options... Now when I brought it in they kept my vehicle for 30 days and changed three parts on it that took that long which was BS I told them I can order something off Amazon and get it the next day why can't you guys overnight parts it's that's ridiculous that's why they had it so long they were waiting on parts... So I got my vehicle back with new parts still my same noise but now I have a ticking which I know is related to the cam phasers my 2005 F150 had the same problem and what they ended up doing with that of course that was 13 years ago they changed and put a new engine in it now they're able to change the cam phasers without having to put a new engine in it so I've yet to take it back for this problem... Ford Engineers told the dealership basically they don't know what it is it's been since it rattles on some new vehicles and doesn't on other new vehicles it's now being classified as a common noise although the dealership left my work order open it's not closed because I was told by the service manager Ford is working on a PCM update to fix the rattle problem which PCM is programmable Powertrain module which is fine my concern is I want to know what the rattle is and no one can seem to figure out what it is or where it's coming from so that's about all I have as an update like I said the dealership didn't close my work order out but they did give me my vehicle to drive because Ford deemed it safe and will not hurt the engine

yeah I'm going to bring it back in eventually for the ticking knocking noise because it wasn't doing that before hand and now it is
