Default Question regarding first F150

Hey guys, new to the forum! My first question is for my first truck should I choose an 04/05 FX4 or a 07/08 STX? I am in the Army, so won't really be towing a lot(atv once in a while). What are some problems to look at for buying the two at those years? Which would be more reliable, less problems? Any other tips would be great! Thanks in advanced!

Yeah, I've been leaning towards the stx. Are there any common problems to look for in those years?

Welcome to the forum, and thank you for your service to our great country. If possible give us a little more info. like engine size, miles on the odo, etc. That way we can get more specific for you.

The 2004-2005 have alot of problems with the 5.4 engine, definitely go with the 2007-2008 bc most of the problems are fixed by then

Honestly, I don't really know much information about F150's, I haven't found a specific truck, but, the '04 FX4 I have been looking at has about 120,000 and the '07 STX is at about 85,000. At the moment, I don't really mind if the STX is a v6 or a v8, however, I would prefer the v8.

I'm not sure when the 5.4 cam along. They have had their problems, broken plugs, and cam phasers. But, with some miles on a used truck one would hope these issues have been taken care of. It's my understanding that the issue mentioned rear their ugly heads sooner than 100K miles. If it's a 4.6 you will probably be OK. I have owned four 4.6L vehicles, and never had a serious issue with any. Buying a used truck you should be aware of the amount, and type of usage the truck has been through. And of course has it been maintained as any other used vehicle, fluid changes, wear/tear items fixed in a timely manner, etc. I have only owned Ford trucks, and they have all been tough as nails. I'm 60 now, and won't change brands now. With all that being said, go with the STX if it drives out good. At 80K it's got a lot of life left in it. Good luck.

Thanks man! Yeah, I have found the 04 FX4 and 07 STX are always around the same price, and I would rather have an 07-08 than an 04 for the same price.
