Default Question on 03 F150

I am in the process of buying a F150 FX Off Road 4 door Lariat from a dealer in my town in MA. I've purchased from him before The rig is in great shape with 82k on it. I do not have time to get an inspection done but I can not see anything wrong with the truck but I am not an expert. is there anything that I need to look for in an 03 or Ford in general? Am I crazy for not getting it inspected? Thanks

Well, some things to check are tires, fluid levels ( and colors of said fluid ), any smoke out of tailpipes, condition of hoses, serpentine belt, tires, how does it shift, any slippage or catching, and even if tires tread is good, check if dryrotted. Personally, I take any car I get to my mechanic before I buy anything simply as there's only so much you can just check visually....

But that's just my .02 :-)

thanks, brand new tires, no smoke on start up. belts look good and trainy shifts smoothly. the dealer has a pretty big set up and has mechanics on staff that are going to go thru the rig. granted they are paid by him.thanks

One second troutman, I'm still chuckling over sogwap and his new Identity, X2. You Putts. OK, lets get back on track, are there any service records for this vehicle. Always nice to know history. I have always believed, mechanically it can be fixed. Accident damage is another story. Look for panel alignment, proper fit and function of doors, windows, hood and trunk. This stuff will agravate you or your wife for ever. Basically how does it drive and by all means, check those tires.

Be sides your basic stuff,Hows the under carridge-clean,dry,no leaks, trans fluid, gear oil, look for leaks from seals, hows the u-joints sound,as was said, maint. records-thats a big one, any plugs ever blew out. All power door locks and windows work? How,s the 4wd? Does it engage and dis-engage properly? Take it for a ride-on and off road. And then with 82k- what,s the dealer asking? If your happy after all of this and the price is right, Then take it to your mechanic, remember your buying a used truck. Good luck
