Default Project truck

Hat is a good truck for a 16 year old? It will be a project truck. I want a yea around 1979. What are some years that I should stay away from? What will be the hardest thing to do and hoe much?
Thanks
Graham

Any Ford is a good candidate, but depends what you will use it for. A Ranger, Explorer, or even Aerostar can be very interesting projects, as can any Toyota with the 22r or re motor.

79 f150s look amazing lifted, BTW.

Finding a '79 thats not rusted out might be tough depending on where you live.

Since '79 was the last year of that bodystyle its probably the best year to get.

Id look for one with a 300 I6 and 4 speed.

Or get a pre 77.5 like me. F250 highboy. Gotta 390 in it. Picked it up 2 days ago. As far as I know it's been in the south alot, and it's still got rusted floorboards and the bed is almost gone.

what exactly is it that you want to do? Restore a truck from the ground up or just have a classic ride that you can drive around?

Getting anything that needs work is going to be very, very expensive if you do it right. A Ranger would be a good start though- beastly when lifted, can diesel them, and they're great in sand and mud. Broncos are good too.
