Default Prodigy Break Controller

Hello,
I just bought a 2007 F150 4*4 5.4 Liter. The truck came with a prodigy break controller which I thought would be useful when I need to pull my boat which weighs in at 3000 lbs. Most days however, I am just using the truck as a commuter vehicle and so I'm wondering if having a break controller affects my breaks when I am just driving without towing. I was under the impression that the break controller just affects the breaks on the trailer and not the truck but I just want to make sure. I don't know much about these break controllers, can anybody tell me what the break controller should be reading out when towing. Right now it shows three levels, 6.1, 6.2, 6.3 and sometimes it shows two dots. Any advice would be helpful. thanks.

it only controls the brakes of the trailer. is your boat trailer even equipped with electric brakes?

The boat trailer has surge brakes I believe, I'm guessing that the break controller won't effect these type of brakes at all. Thanks for the help.
