Default Problems With 4wd

I GOT A 2006 F150 5.4 V8 drove it for a couple months and all the sudden when it got cold i started getting a whinning sound it sounds like gears grinding so i turned my 4WD on the noise would go away. put it back in 2WD drive a little bit it would do it again, turn 4WD on it goes away everytime. I noticed it would also squeel or whine if i hit a bump as soon as i switch it to 4WD it goes away.I took it to the dealer they said itwas the sealenoid replaced it.The same day i got it back it started again more frequent. took it back they had it for a week and said they cleared moisture out of the lines. now its fixed does it take that long to clear lines da da DOES THIS SOUND FISHY??

They probably dicked around for a good bit.

As long as you didn't pay for it I wouldn't be to worried.

Sounds fishy, but they will be able to "justify" the time they spent.
Like Tide said, if you didn't have to pay for the repair, don't worry over it.

The only fishy part is the time that they took to do the work. The vacuum solenoid is a common problem with these trucks, as is moisture in the lines. Had they dried them out properly the first time (which should take a bit less than a week), you likely wouldn't have had the problem twice. My '05 hasn't had the problem yet, but I'm waiting...

I had this problem a couple of days ago , so I replaced the solenoid with the "new" version yesterday but I'm still getting the noise in the front left wheel (in 2wd). I didn't remove the lines at the hubs because I couldn't see where they are attached. Does anyone know how to get the vacuum lines off at the actuators and do I have to remove the calipers to do it? Any pics of this would be greatly appreciated.

I would take it to the dealer but I'm afraid that they're going to tell me that the entire hubs need to be replaced (I had to argue with the parts guy at the dealership to get the proper replacement solenoid).

the vacuum lines can pull off of the hubs just inside of the knuckle. i am also fighting this same issue.... i dont want to buy a new IWE if i dont need to. but, i have done almost all of the troubleshooting i can think of.

Do I need to remove the caliper to access the vacuum lines at the hubs, or can I get to them by turning the wheels all the way (to the right I would guess)?
