Default Problem with Remote Start (100 Series). Advice?

Hello all... I'll try to keep this brief.

Recently had a remote start system installed on my 2014 F150 XLT (100 Series Plug-and-Play). Needed the hood switch/kit as well for it to work.

Got it home from the dealer and tried it out. Didn't work. Got a honk instead of it starting. Didn't work for days... made an appointment with Ford dealership who installed it (Al Packer White Marsh). Got it to the dealer, went to show them the problem and it started. They looked at me like I was crazy. Felt like I was crazy. It worked for a day or so and then started to do the 'honk' think again and would only work about 50-60% of the time.

I figured the hood switch maybe wasn't being depressed enough but even when I open the hood and hold the button down manually, it would still only work when it wanted to. Usually one day it would work every time I tried it. Then the next, it wouldn't work at all despite trying a dozen times to get it to work. So I know it's not my timing with pushing the buttons.

So, to me, something is not right.

Here's what it looks and sounds like when it does not work:

Any suggestions? Do I simply have a bad remote start unit or hood switch?

Any input would be appreciated!

HINT/TIP: You may find posting in the

section more helpful/appropriate than General F150 Discussion posts.

Just a shot in the dark here, but you wouldn't happen to be shutting your truck off while it's in neutral would you? I was having the same issue until I read somewhere on another thread that doing that can cause problems with the remote starter, especially giving the one honk on the next remote startup.

Interesting thought. I do shut it off from time to time without putting the vehicle in park first.

In another thread I was told to put a new battery in the key.

But I'm going to purposely shut it off in neutral and then in park other times and see how the remote start responds after that.

Thanks for the tip... and I'll report back with my findings!

So... I ran some tests and in every case over the course of the last week or so the truck would not start if I had last shut the truck off without putting it in park. If I put it in park and then shut it off, then the remote start would work.

So that has to be the culprit. If anything changes I'll update then... but I think this case is solved! Thanks for everyone's help.
