My cell phone, my gun, and my wallet. Nothing else matters.
LOL, that will suffice if you are in a nice urban/suburban area with great cell service.

Those of us out West know better. I can go 27 miles out of Las Vegas and there is no cell service in widespread areas. None. Trust me, I know.

So out here you would have to add hiking boots and a lot of water to the list. I personally go with most of that long list in Post 3, plus the 3 things mentioned above.

This is from Orange County, CA , home of Disneyland.

But state authorities remain concerned about the fraction of the population without cellphones. And some roadways, they say, lack cell coverage. Sampson said the OCTA is looking at concentrating call boxes where cell service is spotty or nonexistent, such as Ortega Highway or Santiago Canyon Road.
San Diego:

In an era of cellphones, Internet alerts and swift emergency responses, it is still possible for some people to find themselves out of reach of rescuers and loved ones.
That became obvious to the family of Cecil “Paul” Knutson, 79, and Dianna Bedwell, 68, the Fullerton couple who went missing on Mother’s Day en route to La Quinta.
When they were found two weeks later in a remote, forested area of northern San Diego County, Knutson was dead. Bedwell was airlifted to the hospital with severe dehydration and is recovering at an undisclosed location in Palm Springs, according to her attorney.
Off-roaders found the couple inside their 2014 Hyundai Sonata on a bumpy, dirt track near the Schoepe Scout Reservation at Lost Valley, on Los Coyotes tribal land.
The area is one of many in Southern California that does not have cellphone reception.
Dead zones are common in rural and remote areas where there aren’t any cell towers to convey a signal, such as the spot where Knutson and Bedwell were found, said Jeff Cohn, founder of DeadCellZones.com, which has a consumer-generated map of reception problem areas across the country.
You read a few stories like that out here and you become more careful.

Since I seem to be in good company, I'll confess to keeping handy a caliber beginning with 4, an offroad recovery kit, compressor, tire repair, a few tools, fire starter, camp gear including a single-burner white gas stove, canned food, a lantern, an EZ up, tarps, blanket, vest, hiking boots and a few gallons of water... never know how far I might have to travel in any one day here in earthquake country.

Pocket knife, 1911 GCE .40 (one loaded magazine), wallet and everything in it.
Tool box in the back with most tools needed to work on truck, a source of air, jumper cables, funnels, rags, 1 QT of extra oil, anti-freeze, and a couple of other odds and ends.
If I'm going on a trip, I'll secure a 5 GAL gas can in the bed as well...just in case

God, uh.

In center console: Chem lights, gloves, pokka pen, tire pressure checker, spring center punch, seatbelt cutter/pocket knife, LED flashlight, a whole mess of coins, "you park like an *******" business cards I made up, actual work business cards, a rite in the rain notebook and fisher space pen, extra usb cables and some other stuff I'm sure I've forgotten.

In cab:

A 72 quart sterilite tub that contains the following: hitch and ball, tow strap, jumper cables, air compressor, extra boots, extra socks, extra gloves, flares, a mech set of wrenches and sockets, several ratcheting tie-down straps, a bungee cord webbing bed retention set, random bungee cords, meat sticks, bottle of water, extra quart of oil, poncho, jack for the truck, some other stuff I've forgotten.

A bail out bag set up as a GHB that contains: personal ifak, fire starting materials, space blanket, fleece blanket, paracord, G22 in a Desantis paddle and spare mags, water, food, various other things required to get home in an emergency.

A jump box with air compressor.

In bed: Fire extinguisher, truck med kit, axe.

I'm sure there's a bunch of other useful stuff I've forgotten about but that's the gist of it.

I'm not sure how some of you have room for people in your trucks, lol

I have a flashlight, pistol with spare mag, some ratchet straps and a first aid kit. I live in the city though, so my phone works and I can get help if needed.
